Who we need
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Engineering & Data Governance, we are hiring a Senior Data DevOps Engineer to support the reliability, deployment, and ongoing operation of our data platforms. In this role, you will design and maintain automated pipelines that move data solutions from development into production, with a strong focus on system stability, deployment management, monitoring, and recovery. You will partner closely with Data Engineering, Platform, BI & Data Science, and Security teams to enable consistent engineering practices and ensure our data systems are reliable, scalable, and well governed.
This job posting is for an existing vacancy that is a full-time, hybrid role working three days per week on site in our Toronto office.
What’s in it for you
Impact. You will operate within one of Canada’s largest customer ecosystems, with millions of members and multi-partner data flowing through the platforms you help build and operate. Your engineering decisions will directly shape how Scene+ understands loyalty behaviour, enables partner value, and scales its next phase of growth.
Ownership and influence. You will help define the blueprint for Scene+’s next-generation data platform, modernizing data practices, strengthening observability and incident response, improving lineage and metadata frameworks, and advancing engineering standards across the organization. You will own meaningful components of the platform and leave a lasting architectural and operational imprint.
Complex technical challenges at scale. You will work with massive datasets, rapidly evolving partners, and a data ecosystem undergoing significant expansion. This is an opportunity to solve complex, real-world problems at a national scale by designing resilient, automated, and secure systems that support the next wave of growth across Canada.
Accelerated professional growth. You will 10X your technical experience, gaining breadth and depth across cloud platforms, data transformation tools, orchestration patterns, CI/CD, and scalable architecture. You will gain visibility with senior leadership, lead complex technical discussions, and build the influence, communication, and architectural depth required to step into future technical or people-lead roles.
As our new Senior Data DevOps Engineer, you will:
- Enable reliable data platform operations. You will design, build, and maintain automated deployment and release processes for data platforms and data processing systems. This includes developing and supporting CI/CD workflows that move data solutions from development through testing to production in a reliable, repeatable way. You will also implement and manage infrastructure-as-code practices to provision and operate cloud-based data environments in an auditable and consistent manner, and manage version control, branching strategies, code promotion, and code review processes to support low-risk releases across environments.
- Ensure operational stability and observability. You will configure and support workflow scheduling and job orchestration systems to ensure dependable execution of data workloads. This role involves proactively monitoring data systems, identifying failures and performance issues, and supporting incident response, recovery, and root-cause analysis. You will apply infrastructure automation and configuration management practices to maintain reproducible environments, reduce manual intervention, and improve system resilience over time.
- Support secure and compliant data platforms. You will support data platform security, access controls, and compliance requirements in close partnership with security, privacy, and data governance teams. Operational practices must align with organizational controls and regulatory expectations, balancing deployment velocity with long-term platform reliability and risk management.
- Drive operational excellence through collaboration and communication. You will define and maintain operational standards, documentation, and runbooks that support consistent platform operations and effective knowledge sharing. Close collaboration with data engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders will be key to continuously improving reliability, performance, and deployment practices. You will communicate technical processes, risks, and changes clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, helping teams make informed decisions while balancing speed, stability, and long-term sustainability.
You bring:
- The data DevOps expertise. You bring experience as an individual contributor within Data Engineering or Platform Engineering environments. Your background includes proven success in DevOps or Data DevOps Engineer roles supporting data platforms, deployment pipelines, and data operations. Along the way, you have developed strong, practical knowledge of data governance, access control, security, and compliance, as well as hands-on experience with source control systems, GitHub workflows, and deployment automation.
- A strong engineering mindset. You set a high bar for engineering quality and demonstrate a strong command of modern Data DevOps practices, with confidence designing end-to-end solutions, improving CI/CD processes, and applying best-in-class development patterns.
- The technical skills. You have excellent engineering skills with experience supporting cloud-based data platforms (AWS preferred; Azure or GCP), analytical data platforms and data processing systems (Snowflake, or similar). You are proficient in scripting or programming languages used for automation and operational tasks (Python or similar) and have experience with CI/CD pipelines for data or platform workloads. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and practices is essential, as is familiarity with workflow scheduling or job orchestration systems (e.g., Airflow or similar).
- The project management skills. You can manage multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing scope, expectations, and timelines. You communicate proactively, identify risks early, and keep teams aligned. You can adapt plans, respond to evolving business needs, and consistently deliver high-quality work in a dynamic environment.
- The leadership skills. You are an engineering leader who thrives in complex, high-scale environments. You have experience providing technical guidance, support, or mentoring within an engineering or operations team. You are a proven partner and collaborator who can influence without authority, elevate technical decisions, and help shape the culture of engineering excellence. You can build trust quickly, communicate with clarity, and bring an analytical, solutions-focused mindset to every challenge. You demonstrate the capability and ambition to grow into a leadership role, while excelling as a senior technical contributor who raises the performance of the entire team.
